Harris' roots at the historically Black college run deep. In a letter published this month by The Hilltop, the school's student newspaper, Harris recalled "so many fond Memories from when she attended the university, which she referred to by its nickname  The Mecca ,zrecognize my time at Howard shaped me into the person I am today. At Howard, we learn that we have the capacity to be great and also that we have the responsibility to work hard to live up to that potential each dayHarris wrote.
